Marshall Registration Policies and Procedures

Non-Business graduate students who wish to enroll in a Marshall graduate course (500 level) must submit a non-Business Student Application Form. Click here to download the Non-Business Student Application.

For all business classes, registered students who fail to attend the first class meeting of a course that meets once per week and students who fail to attend the first two class meetings of a course that meets twice per week may be dropped from the course and replaced by students from the waiting list. The instructor is not required to notify the student.

Business (Undergraduate)
Most Marshall undergraduate classes are open enrollment (R-clearance) through the first week of class. In other words, students are freely able to add a class (if there is an open seat) througout the first week of the term.

Most Marshall undergraduate classes are closed (switched to D-clearance) at the end of the first week of the semester. Students who wish to add a course during weeks 2-3 of the semester will need to obtain permission from the course instructor. If the instructor grants permission and there is space available, the instructor will give the student a signed blue Marshall Add/Drop that the student will take to the Registration Building (REG) for in-person enrollment.

Wait lists are not maintained for Marshall undergraduate courses.

Please note the following exceptions:

  • The following classes are D-clearance at all times: directed research (BUAD-490); honors classes (BUAD-491); internships (BUAD-495); field projects (BUAD-498); international study classes (BUAD-101, 102 and 104); BAEP-451, BAEP-452, BAEP-453, BAEP-454, BAEP-460, FBE-453ab.
  • Some departments (e.g., MKT, FBE) may leave all of their classes R-clearance for the full three weeks of registration at the start of the semester. These courses can be added using Web Registration.
  • Registration procedures for ACCT classes are established by the Leventhal School, and may be different than the procedures stated above.

Non-Marshall students may enroll in up to three (3) courses prior to being admitted to a Marshall major or minor. Courses from the following academic departments are Marshall courses: ACCT, BAEP, BUAD, BUCO, FBE, IOM, MKT and MOR. Withdrawing from a Business course is considered enrollment and it will be counted as one of the three courses that students can enroll in prior to being admitted to a Business program.

Non-Marshall students in programs that require more than three Marshall courses (e.g., IRGB, MUIN, MATF, CSBA, ENBA) can submit a Non-Business Student Registration Request Form to the Undergraduate Advising Office in BRI 104 after their permit to register day and time.

If you have any questions about registering for undergraduate business classes, please contact the Marshall Undergraduate Advising Office at (213) 740-0690 or undergrad.advising@marshall.usc.edu or BRI 104.

Business (Graduate)
Students may register for "R" classes using USC Web Registration. If a class is full, a student may ask to be placed on a waiting list. Wait list applications are available in HOH 103, by calling 740-5424 or emailing registration@marshall.usc.edu.

Non-business students may register for graduate business classes subject to the following restrictions: (1) proof of completed undergraduate degree; (2) minimum GPA in prior USC graduate course work of 3.2; (3) no more than 12 units of graduate business course work; and (4) prerequisites completed. Complete copies of the applicable policies and application forms are available in HOH 103. If a class is full, the application form will also serve as a wait list application. Non-business students registering for "R" classes who do not complete the application form and meet the established qualifications will be dropped from a class without notice.
