Rich Friedrich heads the Open Innovation Office' which was established to deepen HP Labs' strategic collaborations with those in academia' government and the commercial sector. A global team supporting HP Labs around the world' the Open Innovation Office is charged with driving high-impact research results that meet HP and its partners' scientific and business objectives. In this role' Friedrich is responsible for blending strategy and policy to identify best-in-class technologies on a global scale that amplify the HP Labs research agenda. Friedrich previously directed the Enterprise Systems and Software Lab (ESSL) at HP Labs. The ESSL research team focused on ambitious next-generation enterprise computing and management systems and on inventing distinctive utility computing mechanisms to provide IT infrastructure and enterprise services on demand. Rich's sustained record of innovative accomplishments spans his 20+ year career in HP research and product engineering positions. He led the system performance team that optimized the first commercial PA-RISC based systems in the mid-1980s and the first multiprocessor' online transaction processing RISC systems in the late 1980s. He led the architecture and design of a large scale' distributed measurement system for the OSF Distributed Computing Environment in the early 1990s. He led the teams that invented WebQoS' the novel technology for providing predictable and stable performance for Internet based applications' re-architected Linux for Intel's Itanium architecture' and provided key technologies to HP's Utility Data Center' Open View automation products and StorageWorks data grid products. His team has demonstrated the power of utility services by working with DreamWorks to provide a remote 1000-processor Utility Rendering Service that was critical to the production of the feature films Shrek II and Madagascar. His team in the UK' working with the UK government' created a next generation utility rendering service to reach out to up and coming British animators through the SE3D Film Festival and demonstrated a multi-user service targeted for small and medium businesses using pioneering market-based dynamic resource allocation. He is an active participant in government-industry-university partnerships through such groups as the US National Academies Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable. He has participated on many scientific program committees' is on the board of advisors for four major universities including the University of Illinois and the University of California San Diego' published extensively (his top five publications have been cited 580+ times)' and is a co-inventor on fifteen patents. He is a graduate of Northwestern University.

Masahiro Fujita received a B.A. degree in Electronics and Communications from the Waseda University' Tokyo' in 1981' and an M.S.E.E. degree from University of California' Irvine' in 1989. He joined Sony Corporation in 1981' and worked for development of a spread spectrum communication system' which was used as global positioning system for a car navigation' and as VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometetry) for an earth quake forecast system. From 1988' he became a graduate student of University of California' Irvine' and studied artificial neural network for visual perception. After he returned to Sony' he started Robot Entertainment project from 1993' and developed entertainment robot AIBO' which was started to sell in 1999. After the AIBO project' he has been in charge of development for cognitive part of a small humanoid robot QRIO. In 1998 he proposed to establish RoboCup four-legged robot league using AIBO as platform' which has been one of 4 official physical robot leagues in RoboCup. In 2004' he became a general manager of Intelligent Systems Research Laboratory at Information Technologies Laboratories' which is one of corporate laboratories in Sony Corporation. In 2006' he was selected as Chief Distinguished Researcher' which is a special title in Sony so that only 34 researchers and engineers are selected. As an additional post' he became a director of Sony Intelligence Dynamics Laboratories Inc. (SIDL)' which was established in July 2004. At SIDL he was in charge of establishment Intelligence Dynamics' which is a new approach of studies for intelligence' aiming at realizing emergence of intelligence with emphasizing embodiment and dynamics. SILD was merged into Sony Corporate Laboratories in 2006. He is now a president of System Technologies Laboratories' which was established in May 2008' and one of four corporate laboratories. STL is responsible for R&D in information & media domain.

Bob Gatto is Vice President of Business Development for Nestlé USA. He is responsible for the identification and execution of new business opportunities through acquisitions, partnerships, licensing and product innovation. In 2010, Bob initiated and led the $3.7 billion acquisition of Kraft's frozen pizza business. Bob's other transactions include the acquisitions of Chef America (Hot Pockets), PowerBar and Joseph's Gourmet Pasta as well as the divestitures of Ortega, Kerns, and David & Sons. Bob began his career with Nestlé in 1995 as a Marketing Associate in the Culinary Division working on the Toll House, Ortega, and Contadina brands. In 1997, Bob moved to Nestlé USA's Merger and Acquisitions Group where he started as a Manager and later became the Vice President in charge of the group. In 2005, Bob's role was expanded to include new product development, and shortly thereafter, he led an exclusive licensing agreement with Jamba Juice for a line of healthy, ready-to-drink beverages. Bob received a BS and MBA from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business.

Subrahmanyam (Subu) Goparaju is a Vice President and Head of Software Engineering and Technology Labs (SETLabs)' the company's technology research and innovation arm. He also heads the company's Microsoft Technology Centre which is responsible for researching into and building new services and solutions on emerging Microsoft technologies. Subu Goparaju joined Infosys in 1988 as Software Engineer. He spent over a decade in software project management and solution delivery management before starting SETLabs in 2000. A USC graduate in business administration and entrepreneurship' Carla began her career in 1991 at Pacesetter Systems in Business Development and Marketing to research and plan new technology applications and product needs for pacemakers. In 1993' she began consulting for Advanced Bionics' a cochlear implant company' which she later joined in 1994 in Business Development. In her role at Bionics' she planned and established the future growth strategy for the company into new technologies and applications including the Bion Microstimulator and the adaptation of the cochlear implant for spinal cord stimulation in pain management. At Bionics for 12 years' Carla became the Director of Business Development and Marketing for the Precision Spinal Cord Stimulator' driving the product requirements and business development activities for what became the most successful division of Bionics' later sold to Boston Scientific for in excess of $2Billion. In 2005' Carla became the Vice President of Marketing for Bionics' Auditory Division to drive the product management' product development' professional and consumer education' marketing communications and marketing clinical research activities for the cochlear implant product line. During this time she launched the Hi Res Bionic Ear System and was responsible for driving the development of numerous additional product accessories and software advances' customer services and programs' and a new line of marketing and educational materials for the industry. Over the course of her service to Advanced Bionics' Carla was closely involved in the concept development and design execution of multiple products' resulting in approximately 50 issued patents on which she is an inventor with additional continuation patents still in process. In 2007' she left Bionics to become the Vice President of Program Development and Strategic Planning for the Alfred Mann Foundation for Biomedical Engineering to establish the model for creating and operating Alfred Mann Institutes (AMI) at Universities. Jai Menon is responsible for shaping IBM's technical strategy and identifying emerging technologies as Vice-chair of the IBM Academy of Technology - an elite body of worldwide leaders whose mission is to provide technical direction and leadership for IBM. Andrew J. Ouderkirk earned a PhD. in Physical Chemistry from Northwestern University in 1983. He worked at Du Pont from 1983 to 1985' and started with 3M's Corporate Research group in 1985. Andy formed and led the team developing 3M's Multilayer Optical Film (MOF) technology platform. The lead MOF product' Dual Brightness Enhancement Film (DBEF)' is the world's first commercially successful reflective film polarizer. DBEF is now being widely used in LCDs in applications ranging from mobile phones to large displays. The MOF opportunity was identified and developed in 3M using a new framework for managing market-disruptive products. Andy is one of the lead developers of this framework' called New Business Platform Architecture. Under Andy's leadership' its most recent application is in the development of advanced LED technologies and LED-based mobile projection systems within 3M' and it has resulted in the introduction this year of the world's first handheld LED illuminated projector. Stephen S. Pawlowski is an Intel Senior Fellow' chief technology officer for the Intel Architecture Group' and general manager for Central Architecture and Planning for Intel Corporation. He is responsible for ensuring architectural consistency across all Intel® Architecture and implementation of initiatives such as security and manageability across Intel® Core™ and Atom™ product lines. Pawlowski joined Intel in 1982. He led the design of the first Multibus I Single Board Computer based on the 386 processor. He was a lead architect and designer for Intel's early desktop PC and high performance server products and was the co-architect for Intel's first P6 based server chipsets. He helped define the system bus interfaces for Intel's P6 family processors' the Pentium® 4 processor and Itanium™ processor. He also created and led the research for Intel's agile radio architecture for a future generation of wireless products' he was the director of Corporate Technology Group's Microprocessor Technology Lab and prior to his current assignment he was the CTO of the Intel Architecture Group and General Manager of the DEG Architecture and Planning. Pawlowski graduated from the Oregon Institute of Technology in 1982 with bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering technology and computer systems engineering technology' and received a master's degree in computer science and engineering from the Oregon Graduate Institute in 1993. Pawlowski holds 56 patents in the area of system' and microprocessor technologies. He has received three Intel Achievement Awards.

Makarand Phadke received a Bachelor of Technology degree in chemical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai in 1980 and MS and PhD degrees in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1984. Raj Shah is an Engineering Director at Google. Google is exploring new ways to organize the world's information to make it universally accessible and useful. He is currently responsible for planning and coordinating Google's engineering growth across its 50 plus engineering centers worldwide. Prior to joining Google' Raj was Vice President of Engineering at Ketera Technologies' a KPCB funded start-up. Ketera Technologies is the leading provider of on-demand spend management and eprocurement solutions. As director of Strategic Design' Thomas' leads advanced design teams in both California and Dearborn. In addition to developing product design strategies and concept vehicles for Ford' Lincoln and Mercury' the Strategic Design team works closely with the Advanced Product Creation team of engineers and product experts to create compelling new production vehicles. Before joining Ford' Thomas was head of DaimlerChrysler's Pacifica Advanced Design Center. His 22-year design career boasts a hit parade of vehicles including everything from the 500-horsepower Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle' the "Noble American Sedan" strategy that evolved into the production version Chrysler 300C' as well as the Audi TT concept and Volkswagen Concept 1 (known today as the New Beetle)' which he developed in the 1990s with J Mays' Ford Motor Company group vice president of Design and chief creative officer. Thomas kicked off his career in 1983 as a senior designer at Porsche AG' after graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena' Calif.' which he attended on a full Ford scholarship. He left Porsche in 1987 but continued working on Porsche product designs while heading his own design consultancy' teaching at Art Center and providing design analysis and reviews in popular automotive magazines. Thomas joined Audi in 1991' helping deliver key vehicle designs such as the Volkswagen Concept 1 and its cabriolet concept in 1994 as well as the Audi TT concept and the Audi TTS Spyder Concept the following year. He moved to SHR in 1996' following Mays. This time' the duo created an aluminum space-frame vehicle for Alcoa. Thomas returned to Volkswagen in 1996 as chief designer in the Simi Valley' Calif.' studio. He was named vice president of DaimlerChrysler Advanced Product Design Strategy in 1999' a position he filled until he was named the head of Pacifica Advanced Design Center in 2002. That same year' Thomas was awarded an honorary doctorate from Art Center College of Design' making him one of few alumni recipients' along with Mays.

Dr. Henry Tirri is SVP and Head of Nokia Research Center (NRC). Nokia Research Center drives breakthroughs that reach far into the future, enabling new business opportunities for Nokia. As Head of Nokia Research Center, Henry is responsible for labs worldwide that pursue disruptive innovation. Before joining Nokia, Henry was a Professor of Computer Science and Head of the Graduate School and the Intelligent Systems Laboratory at the University of Helsinki, leading a large, world-class research group in probabilistic modeling. Previous positions include working as a Research Scientist at Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC), MTS at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Visiting Scientist at NASA AMES where he contributed to the Mars Rover technology for the 2003 mission. In the academic world, Henry has been a Visiting Professor at Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley. He was also Vice President of Scientific Operations and Co-Founder of Ekahau. David Whelan is the Boeing Integrated Defense Systems Chief Scientist and Vice President—General Manager, Deputy to the President of IDS Advanced Systems. David has responsibility to create, seek out and explore new technology and business growth vectors for the Boeing Company. Boeing's technology and systems span a wide range of government missions ranging from space systems to airborne systems to ground systems to undersea system. Both manned and unmanned systems have been developed to solve Boeing's customer challenges. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Boeing's Madrid Research and Technology Center and HRL Laboratories, the legacy R&D laboratory of the former Hughes Aircraft Company, a LLC jointly owned by Boeing and GM. Prior assignments include the Vice President-General Manager and Deputy to the President of Boeing Phantom Works, the advanced research and development organization of The Boeing Company and started his career with Boeing as the Chief Technology Officer for the Space & Communications Group (S&C) of Boeing. Before joining Boeing, Dr Whelan served as Director of the Tactical Technology Office (SES-5) of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Department of Defense's venture capital like organization dedicated to creating new systems and technologies to support our nation's air, land, and naval forces. While at DARPA David created many legacy joint programs with the Air Force, Navy and the Army, most notably, the Discoverer II Space Radar Program, the Army's Future Combat System and the Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle. Previously he worked at the Hughes Aircraft Company as Program Manager and Chief Scientist for the B-2 Bomber Air-to-Air Radar Imaging Program. He also worked as a Physicist for the DOE"s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) on X-ray lasers and the Advanced Nuclear Weapons program, and he started his career at Northrop where he was one of the key designers of the B-2 Stealth Bomber and contributed to the YF-23Advanced Tactical Fighter. David earned his Ph.D. ('83) and MS ('78) in physics from UCLA; He received his B.A. ('77) from UCSD. He has numerous publications on electromagnetic radiation, laser plasma phenomena and Defense systems. He holds 14 patents on navigation systems, radar systems, antenna, and low-observable technology. He is currently a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board and the Naval Studies Board of the National Research Council. He is standing member of the American Physical Society, the IEEE, and the AIAA. Dr. Whelan was honored for his government service and received Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Civil Service in 2001 and the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service in 1998.
