A switchboard is a screen containing buttons and drop down boxes that can be used as a main menu to control common access functions. Topics covered include placing command buttons on switchboards to open forms, tables, and execute queries; drop down boxes to go to records, and macros to filter data. The DSUM and DLOOKUP function will also be covered as well as macro basics.

Through their DreamSpark program (formerly known as "MSDNAA"), Microsoft allows Marshall students, faculty, and staff to download some of its development related programs for free.  This guide walks you through downloading applications through DreamSpark as an ISO file and then  decompressing the application using either ImgBurn or 7-Zip. Configuring Outlook 2010

The instructions in this handout cover how to configure the software version of Outlook 2007 to connect to the Marshall Exchange Server using the RPC over HTTP protocol. It does not require VPN and it is intended only for home computers or wireless laptops. If you are a Marshall faculty or staff member, do not follow these instructions for the PC in your office at Marshall.

Outlook Web Application - (OWA 2010)

Archiving - Manually & Other Alternatives

Like autoarchiving, manually archiving also frees up space in your Outlook account by moving email to another location. The difference is that while Autoarchive performs at set intervals; manually archiving can be done at any time by the user. For example, you have an immediate need to free up space or you are graduating and would like to back up all of your e-mail to a non-Marshall location.

Forward Outlook to Another Account

1.  Login to MyMarshall (https://mymarshall.usc.edu)
2.  Click "My Account".
3.  Click "Email Forwarding".
4.  Check "Forward a Copy of Incoming Email to".
5.  Specify whether or not to leave a copy on the server.
6.  Click "Save".

Qualtrics Date Collection

Covers how to collect dates using drop down boxes for month, day, and year.
One of the problems of collecting dates is the format that different regions use.  For example, in the US most people type in this format:  mm-dd-yyyy; howerver, in many other countries the month and day are reversed (dd-mm-yyyy).  Qualtrics date validation will not catch any reverses where the day number is under 13. 
This handout covers how to avoid this issue by providing the responder with three separate drop down arrows:  one for day, one for month, and one for year.  ,

Connecting Your Laptop to the Internet While on Campus

Wireless allows users to connect their laptops to the Internet while on campus but does not require the user to physically connect using cables. Reception is available within all class rooms in Popovich Hall including the patio, as well as other areas throughout USC and the first floor of the Orange County campus.

ResNet - Connecting Your Laptop to the Internet While On Campus

ResNet allows users with a registered Network Card to connect their computers to the Internet at a top speed of 10 Megabits/sec (approximately 1 MB/sec) while on campus. There are ResNet jacks located throughout Marshall and the Residence Halls and wireless connectivity will be provided in the near future. To connect to ResNet, you must have a network card, activate your UNIX account, and register your network card with USC via your UNIX account. These handouts cover activating your UNIX account and configuring your laptop for a ResNet connection to USC.

Faculty Citrix Virtual Lab - Windows Version

Faculty Citrix Virtual Lab - Mac Version
CITRIX allows students, faculty, and staff to access applications on a Marshall Lab PC from a remote computer such as a home or a wireless personal computer.  None

 

 Remote Access Via "Wake My PC"
As part of its IT Energy Initiative, Marshall has installed Verdiem Surveyor energy saving software on all of its computers.  Surveyor saves energy by placing the computer into a lowered power state after a specified duration of inactivity. 
If you are working remotely, you can wake the computer by using the “Wake My PC” widget within MyMarshall.  Further, if you are remoting into a Windows computer, the “Wake My PC” widget has the added advantage of being able to power on Marshall Windows PCs which were either shut down by the user or by a temporary power failure.
Wake My PC - Windows Version
This guide covers how to use the "Wake My PC" widget within MyMarshall to remotely wake a Marshall Windows computer that has been placed in a lowered power state by Verdiem Surveyor. Note that widget will also make the remote connection for you and that these instructions are applicable to both Windows and Mac home computers. 
Wake My PC - Mac Version
This guide covers how to use the "Wake My PC" widget within MyMarshall to remotely wake a Marshall Mac computer that has been placed in a lowered power state by Verdiem Surveyor.  Note that for Macs, it can wake the computer but cannot make the remote connection for you.
