Niche Evolution in the Moble Business Eco-system
The adoption of mobile devices and services continues to present trends that confound prediction with surprise and paradox. The expectation of a "killer application" or a dominant player orchestrating the value chain is giving way to the idea that the next wave of mobile service innovations may blossom from multiple niches and small, flexible players.
The emergence and co-evolution of mobile niches may hold the potential to create a complex and dynamic environment in which players learn from each other and continuously adapt, leading to constant changes in both the rules and the playing fields.
We will explore the essential research questions, underlying dynamics and expected viability of m-business from a Southern California perspective. Our setting for Roundtable discussions will be at the nexus of several creative industries; including film, television, music and games.
To the north of Los Angeles sits Silicon Valley which has led changes in computing that continue to drive the networked digital industry. To the south is San Diego, the single largest concentration of wireless ingenuity and expertise in North America. As we sit at the crossroads, we will examine how multiple niches and smaller players may provide the next wave of mobile service innovations and transformative developments.
