Global Leadership Program
Since 2004, the Global Leadership Program (GLP) has brought together the best and brightest incoming freshmen from the Marshall School of Business. GLP is comprised of current freshmen students who are enrolled in BUAD-101 (also known as the GLP Cohort) and older students (also known as GLP Alumni) to create a community of Business leaders. Students in the GLP Cohort meet regularly for social activities, networking, advising, career development, and take a class in the fall and spring together. Additionally, as part of the Global Leadership Program students have the option of participating in a spring break trip to learn about business in another country. In their sophomore through junior years, GLP Alumni have the opportunity to plan events and mentor younger students, as well as continue to travel abroad to learn about the global impact on business.
The goals of the Global Leadership Program Cohort are:
COMMUNITY - creation of a community of GLP students, past and present, and mentoring of new students by GLP Alumni
LEADERSHIP - development of events and programs that foster leadership and knowledge of international business
CONNECTION - introduction of resources and programs of interest; promotion of greater interaction between faculty and students
Advising
An important part of the program is academic advising. All incoming students are assigned an academic advisor. The advisors conduct group advising and meet individually with students as needed. Students in the Business-Cinematic Arts Joint Program and Accounting are paired with advisors specializing in those programs. Additionally, one advisor, Jamie McCulley Baldwin, oversees the programs and activities for the GLP Cohort.
GLP Trips
This year GLP students will again be able to select from two differerent trips: Shanghai or Beijing. Students will spend spring break in one of the China locations. GLP students who participate in one of the spring break trips also have the opportunity to apply for summer internships in China upon their return.
Selected students from this past year's trips wrote about their experiences in blogs. On these online diaries, students posted pictures and shared their adventures. At the same time as the GLP trips, many other trips were going on through the LINC and ExCeL programs that you can also read about.
GLP Mentors and Activities Committee
There are two groups that assist with the programming and events of the GLP Cohort: GLP Mentors and the GLP Activities Committee. GLP Mentors are GLP Alumni who are available to answer questions or share knowledge about USC and Marshall with new students. The GLP Activities Committee is comprised of current students and GLP Mentors who develop and plan academic and social events for the GLP Cohort. To learn more about these groups, please click here.
